An electrical box still feeds power to the light fixture (if present), but the mechanical support comes entirely from framing, not the box. Oversized Fan in Standard Box (Most Common)
Contractor installs a 58-pound fan into a standard pancake outlet box. Homeowner powers it on. After a few months of operation, vibration loosens the mounting screws.
